              The History of TMJ

Our club for young musicians has a very long history. The Tuesday Musicale of Pasadena was founded in 1914 by a group of gifted women who wanted to perform music together for their ownenjoyment in public venue their meetings have always been held on the first Tuesday of the month, October through May,every year. Later, they added the meeting from September through June yearly.
The plan worked so well that in 1928 the club started an additional group for their children who were studying instruments or voice; It was called The Tuesday   Musicale Juniors or TMJ and meets at 10:30 pm every second Saturday of the month from October to May ever Year.
Pasadena Central Public Library, an historic and architecturally significant civic showplace, was built in 1927, and since that year has been the site for meetings of both Tuesday Musicale Clubs, Our long and cordial association with the Library is a treasured centerpiece of our history and the Club’s two Steinway pianos are housed there in the beautiful Donald Wright Auditorium.
Through the years, membership in TMJ has varied widely, at times reaching more than 200 young musicians. Today, members can take pride in belonging to a group with a long and successful history.
